Bhaskara Rao Botcha, an artist based in Hyderabad, draws inspiration from nature, particularly trees, in his artwork. His creative vision explores trees through various mediums, colors, contexts, and textures, presenting each painting with a fresh perspective. Rao earned his BFA in Painting from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam in 1999 and his MFA in Painting from the University of Hyderabad (Central University) in 2001.

Initially drawn to figurative and street art, Rao's artistic journey shifted towards natural landscapes, eventually focusing on trees as his central motif. Raised in Salur, a small town in Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh, his deep-rooted connection to trees traces back to his childhood experiences. Fond memories of planting a mango tree with his father in their farm ignited his enduring passion for nature. For Rao, trees are not only integral to the ecosystem but also hold cultural and spiritual significance. He highlights their role as sacred emblems in Indian mythology, emphasizing their importance in providing sustenance, shelter, and protection to the earth.

As an intuitive artist, Rao's creative process unfolds organically, layer by layer, until he achieves his desired outcome. His paintings exhibit a remarkable depth and realism, brought to life through acrylics, intricate textures, and imaginative color palettes. Departing from conventional green hues, his works often feature bold primary colors, black and white contrasts, or subdued greys, meticulously detailed to captivate the viewer.

Rao's artistic achievements include solo exhibitions at Icon Art Gallery, Hyderabad in 2012 and 2013, and The International Artist Salon of A.R.T, Taiwan in 2017, 2018, and 2019. He has participated in over 60 group exhibitions across India, as well as in UAE, Taiwan, and Germany. Noteworthy accolades include his participation in the India-Russia ART Festival in St. Petersburg, Russia, receiving a Junior Fellowship from the Ministry of Tourism & Culture, Government of India, and being honored with the Prafulla Foundation Award and the State-level Painting Award from Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University in 2013.
