Zoya Chaudhary
About the Artist
Zoya Chaudhary (b 1982) is an artist born in India and a resident of Singapore since 2011. She works across mediums including installation, video, cut-out collage & painting. Zoya’s current art practice is focused on exploring ideas of subjectivity, perception, memory, and identity. Her works begin with the personal, and then build to consider ways the personal interacts with larger public narrative.Zoya has been sketching, drawing, and making things since as long as she can remember. After completing Applied Arts in Mumbai in 2005, she went to work as a visual artist, designer and illustrator, for creative and media agencies. She also designed and performed for several theatre productions in India. She relocated to Singapore in 2011 where she started showing her art in exhibitions and art fairs, locally and internationally. In 2021, Zoya received an MA in Fine Arts from LASALLE College of Arts, Singapore, where she was the recipient of ‘Dr. Winston Oh Travelogue’ award. Since then, her art practice has seen a shift from narrative based paintings towards abstraction and materiality. Zoya’s work has been exhibited extensively, including solo exhibitions such as Presenting Pastness (Singapore, 2023) and Lost and Found (Singapore, 2018). She has participated in prestigious art fairs and exhibitions, including The Art of India (2022), Affordable Art Fair (Singapore & Amsterdam), Art Mumbai (2024), and Delhi Contemporary Art Week (2024). Her works are part of several private collections worldwide. Her exploration of media as material and the fragility of time is also reflected in her academic contributions. Her essay “Shaping Perception: Negotiating Media as Material” was published in Currents Journal (University of Melbourne, 2021). She has been profiled in global art publications, including Artists to Look Out For (2014, USA) and Homegrown Magazine (India, 2019).
