Salar's work centers around the application of paint and is an enquiry of its material quality. The medium of paint becomes a tool in the transcription of various images onto a surface, preserving certain aspects whilst reshaping others. He compares the reality of everyday life, the reality of skin, objects and people to the reality of paint, a material equally real, which is not used to ‘recreate’ or imitate an existing image but to channel existing images to form new ones. Central to Marri's work is the human figure, exploring how paint can morph, bruise, stretch, and convey both the vitality and lifelessness of a body.
