Founded in 2011 in a heritage building next to the Kashmere Gate Monument, at the fringe of the Walled City of Shahajahanabad, Modern Art Gallery (MAG) has been dedicated to showcasing diverse artists, particularly emerging talents from India. In 2018, we expanded our presence by opening a second gallery in the diplomatic enclave of Chanakyapuri, New Delhi. MAG plays a crucial role as an artistic interlocutor with the public, especially in Central and North Delhi, where galleries are scarce.
Over the years, we’ve had the privilege of collaborating with some of India’s finest artists across generations. Our gallery features works by masters such as Lalu Prasad Shaw, Jogen Chowdhury, and M.F. Husain. We have also maintained strong relationships with renowned senior artists including Thota Vaikuntam, Subrata Gangopadhyay, Shyamal Mukherjee, Paritosh Maity, Vijender Sharma, Biplab Biswas, Laxma Goud, and Ramesh Gorjala, who have gained international acclaim.
Our vision for MAG Contemporary, our new vertical, is to expand our cultural horizons and creative energy by building a collaborative institution that presents art which challenges and inspires. This initiative focuses on supporting and promoting younger artists. Our inaugural exhibition, “Landscapes in Flux,” brings together twelve artists from across the country to explore the perception of landscapes and architectural designs through an artist’s eyes. This journey has heightened our awareness of the indomitable muse within our versatile culture and the art in architecture that shapes an artist’s perception of the world.
Through MAG Contemporary, we aim to establish ourselves as a leading gallery for young artists, fostering a dynamic environment that nurtures creativity and innovation in contemporary art.
